Description
Synthes 355.36 Threaded Hook with 355.33 Orthopedic Connector • Model: 355.36, 355.33 • Hook Diameter: 6mm • Hook Length: 4-3/8 inches • Connector Inner Diameter: 6mm • Connector Length: 6 inches The Synthes 355.36 Threaded Extraction Hook is a specialized extraction instrument designed to remove large intramedullary nails (or rods) when simple removal by pulling is insufficient, or when the distal end of the implant may be broken, stripped, or inaccessible. It works in conjunction with the Connector 355.33, which provides a means to attach to the hook assembly and often to devices or handles capable of producing extraction force (pulling, torque, vibration, etc.). The hook has threads that engage the end of the nail; once threaded in, force is applied (via the connector and handles or extraction tower) to withdraw the nail from the medullary canal. Because it’s “threaded,” the user must match the hook’s thread form and size to the nail’s end or tapping (if present). Proper alignment and threading are critical — cross‑threading or misalignment could damage the nail’s end cap or the hook, making extraction more difficult. The instrument is designed to withstand the torsional and axial forces needed for extracting nails that may be firmly seated, possibly partially integrated with bone, or obstructed by bone or tissue growth. In clinical settings, this tool is often part of a nail extraction set. When a removed nail is difficult to grip by other means (e.g., if end caps are removed or missing, or if exposure is limited), the threaded hook provides a secure way to engage and pull. Surgeons need to ensure that imaging (e.g., intra‑operative fluoroscopy) guides engagement so that the hook is centered and aligned. Maintenance is essential: cleaning threads, making sure there is no corrosion or deformation, and ensuring connector 355.33 is in good working order so that extraction forces transmit reliably without slipping or failure. This item is used and in very good condition.
