Description
Ethicon J500G 5-0 Coated VICRYL Undyed 1X18" PS-3 16mm BX/12 • Model: J500G • Brand: Coated VICRYL • Suture Size: 5-0  • Length: 1X18" • Color: Undyed • Material/Composition: Polyglactin 910 • Absorbable • Needle Name: PS-3 • Needle Color: Silver • Needle Length: 16mm • Needle Point Type: Cutting Edge Prime Reverse • Specialty: ETHALLOY Needle Alloy, MultiPass Needles The Ethicon J500G Coated VICRYL 5‑0 is an absorbable, braided synthetic suture made from polyglactin 910. Because of its braided and coated construction, it offers favorable handling properties: good pliability, easier passage through tissue with reduced drag, and reliable knot security. The undyed (natural) form can be useful in settings where colored sutures might interfere with visualization or where minimal foreign‑color contrast is preferred. This suture is mounted on a PS‑3 reverse cutting needle, which is 3/8 circle in shape and has a needle length of 16 mm. The precision reverse cutting design places the cutting edges on the outer curvature (prime reverse), which helps resist suture pull‑through in denser tissues such as skin or fascia. The 3/8 curvature balances maneuverability with access in confined or shallow wounds, making it versatile for many soft tissue closures. In clinical use, J500G retains a useful portion of its tensile strength during the early phases of healing (losing about half of strength by 3 weeks), and is fully absorbed by about 56–70 days. This profile allows it to provide support during the critical early healing period, then gradually transfer load to the regenerating tissue without a permanent foreign body presence. It is appropriately applied for general soft tissue approximation and ligation (excluding neurological or cardiovascular uses) where temporary support suffices.
