Because it is made from polyglactin 910 and is coated, it offers a smooth passage through tissue while maintaining good handling and knot-security characteristics. Its undyed (natural) color helps avoid pigmentation in more superficial or cosmetic closures where minimal visual footprint is desired. The needle included with the J418H is an SH ½-circle taper point, measuring 26 mm. The taper point design allows gradual penetration of tissue with reduced cutting action, which is advantageous in delicate or friable tissues where minimizing trauma is critical.
