Description
Ethicon VCPB977H 1 Coated VICRYL Plus 1X36" CTXB 48mm Ethiguard Blunt Point BX/36 • Model: VCPB977H • Brand: Coated VICRYL Plus • Suture Size: 1 • Length: 1X36" • Color: Undyed • Material/Composition: Triclosan, Polyglactin 910 • Absorbable • Needle Name: CTXB • Needle Color: Silver • Needle Length: 48mm • Needle Point Type: Ethiguard Blunt Point • Specialty: N/A The Ethicon VCPB977H is a sterile, absorbable braided suture designed for general soft tissue approximation and ligation, combining the proven properties of polyglactin 910 (VICRYL) with antibacterial protection. Its size “1” makes it suitable for many moderate-to-heavy load applications in tissue where absorbable support is needed. The undyed (natural) form reduces potential pigmentation and irritation, which can be especially useful in aesthetic or delicate closures. One of the distinguishing features of this suture is its ETHIGUARD blunt point needle (CTXB, ½ circle, 48 mm). Unlike sharp needles, the blunt tip tends to minimize inadvertent tearing or laceration when passing through delicate or friable tissues, making it safer in areas where unintended tissue penetration is a concern. The braided construction, along with the coating, offers good handling, knot security, and smooth passage through tissue despite being a braided suture. Because it is a “Plus Antibacterial” suture, the VCPB977H incorporates an antibacterial agent (commonly triclosan) into its coating, which helps reduce bacterial colonization at the suture line. Over time, the suture is absorbed by hydrolysis, typically losing tensile strength progressively and being fully resorbed by about 56–70 days. This makes it suitable for many internal and external surgical closures where long-term permanent support is not required. (It’s important to consider patient healing factors and surgical site stress when selecting such a suture.)
